Snow Geese Migration

April 10, 2014  •  2 Comments

In late March, I organized my North American Nature Photography Association : Nature Photography Group of Pennsylvania to visit the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area.  This preserve, just North of Lancaster, PA, draws in huge crowds every March for the grand snow geese migratory spectacle!  We fit right in alongside other wildlife photographers and bird watchers carrying long focal length lenses, telephoto lenses, and extreme binoculars to view the birds.

I was in complete awe when thousands of snow geese would all lift off at once!

We just missed the peak of the migration, where numbers were estimated to be over 60,000 snow geese in one day!  In addition to snow geese, there were also large numbers of tundra swans and Canada geese.
